Knitted Baby Gifts: Ribbit and Elephante

I have an intense love for knitted toys. They are absolutely adorable and fun to knit up.  My dear cousin recently had a sweet baby boy, and I knit up a couple of little critters for her little one.

I found the Elephante pattern on Ravelry (love Ravelry!) and of course it is another fabulous pattern by Susan B. Anderson.  This elephant’s cute little ears and squat stature made him irresistible.

The little frog friend is also a Susan B. Anderson pattern from her Spud and Chloe blog.  The neat thing about this frog is that in the middle of his body is a tennis ball, so he does “hop” a little when bounced gently.  Embroidering on the eyes gave me a run for my money.  The pattern said to use a French Knot for the eyes but that only created a little dot that could barely be seen.  I finally settle on the Spiderweb technique and was much happier with the results. The little smirk on Ribbit’s face is endearing, and I forgave him for all the trouble he put me through.

I love the idea of putting a tennis ball inside the frog, I’m going to have to try that one! I made that same elephant awhile ago but never got around to putting on ears or a tail…I’d say he/she looks much cuter finished :)

Steph, yup, the ears really take the cute factor up several notches. :)

SOOO cute. Giving homemade gifts is so special. I love both these knits. You inspired me and I’ve started a sheep.
