Simple Knotted I-Cord Bracelet

I often find great ideas for project on Pinterest.  I saw a picture for this neat knitted bracelet and immediately pinned it because I thought is was pretty neat.  There was not a tutorial for how to make the bracelet but I did find a tutorial on how to do the braided knot.  After peering closely at the picture it seemed to me that it was simply an knitted I-cord (a narrow tube of knitting) braided into an intricate knot.  I thought is looked easily attainable so I whipped out some leftover yarn and started knitting.

Don’t know how to make an I-cord?  There is a great video here to help you out.

Materials:

Yarn (dig into that stash and use what you have on hand)

Size 2 needles

Can/bottle about 8 inches in diameter

Step One:

Using size 2 needles, cast on 3 stitches and knit I-cord until it measures 48 inches.  Cut yarn, leaving a few inches of yarn at the end and use a yarn needle to pull the yarn through your last 3 stitches.

Step Two:

Start by wrapping your finished I-Cord around your bottle (I used an Izze bottle which is a bit bigger than my wrist so I knew the bracelet would be big enough to slide over my hand). Using this Turk’s Head knot tutorial, braid up your bracelet.  Keep in mind that an I-Cord is stretchy so don’t pull too hard as you make your knot.  It did take me a couple tries to get it correct.  Also note that the tutorial makes 3 passes around but I only did two.  If you want to go all three times around, make your I-cord longer before you start (probably add about another 15 inches).  I was happy with two rounds.  Tie the ends together and use your yarn needle to weave in the ends.  Trim excess yarn.

That’s it!  Fun, simple project with great results!  I can’t wait to wear my new bracelet!

Wow, definitely giving this a try. I just organized my yarn stash last night and I have tons of weird scrap pieces, but all in beautiful colors, so this would be an awesome project. Thanks!
